The only thing that should go into a stormwater drain is stormwater. Your business has a duty of care to make sure that all water going into the stormwater drainage system from your premises is as free from contaminants as possible.

Paint, solvents, cleaners, dust, sand and other pollutants must not be washed or swept from your premises into the stormwater drainage system, either deliberately or due to rain or wind.

The EPA has codes of practice and a range of helpful information sheets to help various industries and business-types manage their stormwater.

Your local council may also be able to offer advice on how to minimise contamination of stormwater.
