Waste should be viewed as a leftover resource that we don’t always know what to do with. Ideally we should try to avoid producing waste in the first place, but of course this is not always possible.
The next best options are:
- to make waste suitable for reuse
- to recycle it into other products, or
- to dispose of properly as a last resort.
Visit our waste management reform pages for helpful information and guidelines for industry.
Most councils have domestic recycling systems and businesses can also arrange for the collection of their recyclable waste.
All businesses should analyse their processes to see how they can minimise their waste production. Minimising or avoiding waste usually leads to a drop in business costs. Visit our eco-efficiency pages for more information.
