Klemzig, 44 OG Road
Viva Energy Australia, formerly trading as The Shell Company of Australia, has written to seven landholders near its Coles Express Service Station at Klemzig to advise them of the existence of residual petroleum in groundwater beneath the site.
Viva Energy advises that it has contracted an environmental consultant to develop a plan of works to better understand the nature and extent of the chemical substances that have been found in groundwater approximately 14 m below the surface. This may involve further drilling and testing.
As part of its investigation, Viva Energy has requested the 7 landholders complete a survey of groundwater use and confirm the presence or absence of basements/underground cellars in the area.
The EPA and SA Health advise that groundwater (bore water) should not be extracted for any use. Mains water supplied by SA Water is unaffected and is safe.
