Adelaide
Adelaide's Air Quality Index (AQI) is currently determined from data collected at Netley, Birkenhead, Elizabeth Downs, Northfield, Kensington Gardens and Christie Downs ambient air monitoring stations.
Air quality indices are also shown for the following sub-areas within the Adelaide metropolitan region, using data from the monitoring stations listed:
- Western Adelaide – Netley monitoring station
- Northwestern Adelaide – Birkenhead monitoring station
- Northern Adelaide – Elizabeth Downs monitoring station
- Northeastern Adelaide – Northfield monitoring station
- Eastern Adelaide – Kensington Gardens monitoring station
- Southern Adelaide – Christie Downs monitoring station.
Map locations
These maps can be used as an approximate guide to determine which site may most accurately represent air quality in your local area.
Regions
Air quality indices are shown for Port Pirie and Whyalla in the Spencer Gulf. Port Pirie’s AQI is determined from data collected at the Oliver Street monitoring station and Whyalla’s AQI from data collected at the Walls Street station.
Map locations
The map of the Spencer Gulf region contains additional monitoring sites in Port Pirie and Whyalla. However only the Oliver Street and Walls Street site are used for the AQI. Monitoring at the other sites is for different purposes.
Each region has many different sources of air pollution as each has different types of industry, housing densities and road networks. Levels of air pollution in each region depend on these pollution sources and local meteorology, which will transport and recirculate pollution throughout the area and beyond.
