Monitoring data & audio records
Below are graphs summarising the original noise monitoring data obtained during the monitoring period. 10-minute averages are shown for all sites except the East site which shows 15-minute averages. A detailed comparison and analysis of monitoring results is provided in the final report.
Noise and weather data not provided on the website can be obtained by contacting the EPA by email, tel 8204 2004 or Freecall 1800 623 445 (non-metropolitan callers only).
The graphs show both unweighted and weighted data. Please note that there are no international assessment criteria that can be meaningfully applied to unweighted noise data; they are provided for information only. A-weighting, LAeq (LF), C-weighting and G-weighting have been used and further information about these weightings is available in the Glossary and The nature of noise.
The microphones with low frequency adapters used at the North and Township sites to measure infrasound are specifically designed to measure noise at very low frequencies. Due to these specifications, the microphones are not as sensitive to higher frequency range noises. This causes the A-weighted and C-weighted noise-level measurements to be less accurate if these microphones are used. To help with this, a conventional microphone was positioned outside of each house in addition to the infrasound/low frequency microphone. A single microphone (infrasound/low frequency) was used to measure inside noise.
For this reason the inside graphs for the North and Township sites only show LAeq,LF and G-weighted levels; while the outside graphs have the full range of weightings included
Audio files will be available where permission from residents regarding private content has been given. These files will be available as soon as practicable following analysis and screening. Due to the large amount of recorded information this will take a significant amount of time to complete. To request an audio file contact the EPA.
