All containers must be approved by the EPA before being sold in South Australia.
Environment Protection (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 2008
In July 2008, the Environment Protection (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 2008 was passed in Parliament.
The Bill introduces penalties for ‘interstate rorting’.
This involves containers sold outside of South Australia which have not had a deposit paid on them but are being presented to collection depots for refund.
Collection depot operators must ask for a declaration to be signed by persons returning 3,000 or more containers, in a 48-hour period, stating they believe the containers were not sourced from outside of South Australia.
Please note all container declaration forms must be made available to the EPA on request.
