Information for households

Hazardous waste

Householders can bring their waste to the Household Hazardous Waste Depot operated by Zero Waste SA.

Paint, varnish, sealants and adhesives which have solidified can be disposed of in normal rubbish.

For more information on what types of household hazardous waste can be accepted, check out the brochure from Zero Waste SA.

Wastes from businesses and government agencies will not be accepted. Such wastes may be disposed of by commercial waste treatment companies.

Farmers/hobby farmers and primary producers should dispose of unwanted agricultural chemicals through the industry based and funded ChemClear.

The hazardous waste strategy provides statewide direction for the management of hazardous waste and is intended as an instrument to stimulate industry to change the way that they view hazardous waste and in particular, its generation.

Medical waste also has specific licensing and management requirements.
