|Environmental values describe the environmental, social and economic uses of waterways that communities agree are important.|
The EPA has several projects underway to help improve waterways across South Australia in line with the National Water Quality Management Strategy (NWQMS). These projects have involved establishing environmental values and defining how different water bodies might be protected. These projects have involved the EPA working with South Australian communities to protect and improve water quality in the following areas of the State:
- Adelaide Coastal Waters
- Healthy Waters (Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges)
- Lake Bonney SE
- Mount Lofty Ranges Watershed Water Quality Improvement Plan (MLRWWQIP)
- Port Waterways
On each of these projects, the EPA is working with regional natural resources management boards, other state agencies, local government, and the community to set environmental values and water quality objectives for South Australian waters according to the Environment Protection (Water Quality) Policy 2003 and the National Water Quality Management Strategy (NWQMS).
