The EPA offers two special types of licences. Sustainability Licences are available to those companies who demonstrate a significant, voluntary commitment to improving their environmental sustainability.
Accredited Licences are available to those licensees who demonstrate excellence in environmental management and perform beyond compliance.
These can be combined into an Accredited Sustainability Licence, which is the most prestigious licence the EPA offers.
Sustainability Licences
A Sustainability Licence combines the standard EPA licence with a voluntary sustainability agreement. This agreement outlines the company’s public commitment to reducing their impact on the local environment.
To be awarded a Sustainability Licence, companies must commit to openly engaging with their neighbours and local community.
Companies with a Sustainability Licence will benefit from streamlined licence conditions and the opportunity to combine multiple sites into one licence.
Sustainability Licences and annual performance reports will be published on the EPA website.
More information is available in the brochure, and anyone interested in a Sustainability Licence should contact Bryce Routley on 846 33707.

Accredited Licences
An Accredited Licence rewards holders of EPA licences for following best practice environmental management standards. Accredited Licence-holders are rewarded with discounted licence fees and less prescriptive licence conditions.
The Accredited Licence system is designed to free licensees from the standard prescriptive approach to licensing.
An Accredited Licensee must demonstrate a high level of environmental performance and an ongoing capacity to maintain and improve this performance.
An applicant for accreditation must be the holder of an EPA licence, have an environmental management system, and an environmental audit and compliance program approved by the EPA.
Before seeking accreditation, applicants should arrange to discuss their proposals at an early stage with their licence coordinator.
The EPA has awarded accredited licences to the following companies:
- The Marina Hindmarsh Island (accredited August 2007)
- Constellation Wines’ Berri Estate Winery (accredited October 2009)
- The Yalumba Wine Company (accredited April 2010)
