The Light River at Mingay's Waterhole has a reasonably diverse macroinvertebrate community with more than 120 invertebrates being collected between 1994 and 2004. Many of these commonly occur throughout the State.

The amphipod family Eusiridae can be found in abundance in the Light River. These crustaceans are often found in the slow-flowing or still sections of brackish streams.
