Myponga River is considered to be quite diverse with more than 150 aquatic invertebrates collected at the gauging station between 1994 and 2004. Most invertebrates collected from this site are quite common and can be found across the State.

The microcaddis Hellyethira simplex has been collected from Myponga River on many occasions. They are found in slow-flowing waters amongst submerged vegetation.
