What is the National Pollutant Inventory (NPi)?
The NPi is an Internet database
containing information on the types and quantities of pollutants
being emitted from a range of industrial, commercial, transport
and household activities. While the NPi is a federal initiative,
each state is responsible for implementing the program. The South
Australian EPA has established an NPi Team to run South
Australia's program.
The NPi emission information will:
- help in environmental planning and management
- promote waste minimisation and cleaner production by industry
and business, leading to energy and resource savings
- satisfy community demand for accessible information on pollutant
emissions to the environment
- increase community awareness of the contribution to pollution
from many different sources.

Useful NPi information
Additional information is available on the national web sitewww.NPi.gov.au.
This includes frequently
asked questions, latest
news on the NPi, how the NPi is being implemented
across Australia, and key
dates for NPi reporting.
Do you have a problem or complaint, or want more information?
If your issue is related to the NPi web site or database,
please contact Commonwealth Department of the Environment and
Heritage by e-mail: npi@deh.gov.au.
If your issue is about industry data, please contact the industries
directly. You will find their contact details alongside their
data on the NPi
web site.
If your issue is about the aggregate data (emissions from other
non-industrial activities), contact the EPA by e-mail: NPi@epa.sa.gov.au.
What do you think?
We want to know what you think of the existing database and web
site and how useful they are to you. We are interested in how
you use the data and the scientific conclusions you can draw from
the data. We want to improve the database, so please tell us what
else you want to see on this web site and database. Contact the
SA NPi Team by e-mail
or use our feedback form.
We hope you gain something from the data collated and presented
in Environment Australia's database. Through this database, we
aim to contribute to actions that result in better quality air,
water and land.
