The State of the Environment Report is a regular and objective
assessment of significant environmental issues facing South Australia's
environment.
The report is published every five years by the Environment Protection
Authority (as required by the Environment Protection Act 1993).
The most recent State of the Environment Report was published
in 2003.
The next State of the Environment Report for South Australia
is planned for release by November 2008. The EPA is in the process
of collecting and collating data from researchers across the State
as part of the preparation of the report.
The reports are structured to recommend future policy and program
direction, independent of Government, through the EPA Board. State
of the Environment Reports are required to
- provide assessments of the state and condition of the State's
environment,
- identify trends over time,
- quantify pressures influencing these trends and assess the
effectiveness of efforts by public agencies to protect,
- enhance and conserve the environment.
