The Torrens River at Mt Pleasant is reasonably diverse with more than 160 aquatic invertebrates collected from this site between 1994 and 2004. Most invertebrates collected from this site can be found through South Australia.

The aquatic snail Physa acuta can usually be found in the Torrens River. It is an introduced species, brought to Australia for use in aquariums and has inadvertently entered the environment. This snail is pollution tolerant and can be found throughout the State in most freshwater and brackish streams, except in the Far North.
