A Port Waterways Water Quality Improvement Plan (972KB), Appendices (888KB) (Port Waterways WQIP) has been developed. The plan details strategies for water quality improvement for nutrient levels in the Port Waterways. It considers the range of nutrient inputs to the area and has enabled stakeholders to agree on outcomes and the processes for achieving them.

In developing the Port Waterways WQIP it was necessary to identify the current status of pollutant loads to the waterways. Much of the information required to do this work existed as point-source loads of nutrients known through ongoing monitoring undertaken by the Environment Protection Authority.

The Port Waterways WQIP has been prepared through the Natural Heritage Trust’s Coastal Catchments Initiative. The WQIP is an environmental management plan that implements Australia’s National Water Quality Management Strategy.
