The EPA in South Australia runs a state-wide program, based on
the Australian
Guidelines for Water Quality Monitoring and Reporting, to
monitor water quality. The program monitors the condition of the
state's major waters, by comparing them with national water quality
guidelines and by using ecological health indicators. The monitoring
program also collects water samples frequently enough so as to
be able to identify trends in water quality. The water quality
data that it produces can be linked to natural resource management
programs throughout the state, as well as with other government
departments and partners.
