Radiation Protection Committee
The Radiation Protection Committee is an expert advisory body established under section 9 of the Radiation Protection and Control Act 1982 (RPC Act).
The committee comprises 10 members and 10 deputy members. Members are appointed by the Governor.
The functions of the committee are specified in section 12 of the RPC Act. These are to advise the Minister and the EPA in relation to:
- the formulation of regulations under this Act
- the granting of licences under the Act including the conditions to which they should be subject
- the investigation and reporting upon any other matters relevant to the administration of the Act at the request of the Minister or the EPA, or of its own motion.
The committee advises the Minister and the EPA on all aspects of radiation protection in medical, industrial, scientific and public uses of ionising and non-ionising radiation, and meets approximately every quarter.
The term of the current committee is from 21 February 2019 until 20 February 2022. The members and deputies, and their attributes, as specified in section 9 of the RPC Act, are listed below.
