Construction noise
Some activities on construction sites are noisy. Although some noise may be unavoidable, it can often be controlled using improved work practices.
Builders should take all reasonable measures to minimise noise and to limit noise activities to between 7 am to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday. Some grounds may exist for construction work to occur outside these hours if consent is given and procedures followed. Contact your council for further information.
The Environment Protection (Noise) Policy 2007 (the Noise EPP) sets out mandatory requirements for noise from construction activities. If a business does not comply with these requirements then they risk a Category B offence (maximum $4,000 fine or a $300 expiation).
