Radiation
The EPA protects the environment and health and safety of people from risks associated with ionising and non-ionising radiation. We regulate the use of ionising radiation in medical, research, industrial and mining organisations, including use of X-rays, and the safe use, transport, storage and disposal of radioactive substances.
We also provide advice on radiation safety of non-ionising radiation sources, including lasers, microwaves, powerlines, mobile phones and communication towers.
Structure
The Radiation Protection Branch has five sections:
- Radiation Health Group
- Mining and Environment Group
- Diagnostic X-rays Group
- Laboratory and Technical Services
- Administrative Group
