Personal monitoring devices
Under Regulation 18 of the Radiation Protection and Control (Ionising Radiation) Regulations 2015, an employer must issue an approved personal radiation monitoring device (PRMD) to each radiation worker in their employment, unless they have been given an exemption under section 44 of the Radiation Protection and Control Act 1982.

The following categories of worker have been given an exemption from the requirement to wear a personal monitoring device:
- Persons operating X-ray analysis equipment (such as X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence analysers)
- Operators of plain dental intra-oral apparatus.
