Groundwater prohibition area
A groundwater prohibition area has been established in parts of Keswick, Forestville, Ashford, Everard Park, Wayville and Mile End South. This area has a proud manufacturing history, with some past chemical disposal and handling practices having contaminated the groundwater.
The EPA has established a formal prohibition on the extraction of groundwater (bore water) from shallow aquifers less than 18 m deep. Deeper uncontaminated aquifers, such as those typically accessed by schools and councils, are exempt from this prohibition. This was published in the South Australian Government Gazette on 29 October 2020 and is the 6th groundwater prohibition area established in metropolitan Adelaide.
The EPA established a designated phone number, email and personal contact point during the 90-day community consultation. Please visit our online engagement portal to review copies of previous community updates, maps, and reports.
