Keswick, Forestville, Ashford, Everard Park, Wayville and Mile End South
Groundwater prohibition area proposed
The EPA is proposing to establish a groundwater prohibition area in parts of Keswick, Forestville, Ashford, Everard Park, Wayville and Mile End South. This area has a proud manufacturing history, with some past chemical disposal and handling practices having contaminated the groundwater.
Groundwater (bore water) in the upper Quaternary aquifers is contaminated and should not be used for any purpose. The depth of the known contamination extends to the Keswick Clay aquifer (5–8 m below ground level) and the Hindmarsh Clay aquifer (12–16 m below ground level). Deeper aquifers used by schools and councils are not affected.
