The EPA protects the community from the health risks associated with ionising and non-ionising radiation. We regulate the use of ionising radiation in medical, research, industrial and mining organisations, including use of X-rays, and the safe use, transport, storage and disposal of radioactive substances.

We also provide advice on radiation safety of non-ionising radiation sources, including lasers, microwaves, powerlines, mobile phones and communication towers.

  • Radiation Protection annual reports (incorporated in the EPA annual reports).

Structure

The Radiation Protection Branch has five sections:

  • Radiation Health Group
  • Mining and Environment Group
  • Diagnostic X-rays Group
  • Laboratory and Technical Services
  • Administrative Group
