About water quality improvement projects
The EPA works with South Australian communities to protect and improve water quality in the state. Environmental values describe the environmental, social and economic uses of waterways that communities agree are important.
The EPA has projects underway to help improve waterways across South Australia in line with the National Water Quality Management Strategy (NWQMS). These projects have involved establishing environmental values and defining how different water bodies might be protected.
On each of these projects, the EPA is working with regional natural resources management boards, other state agencies, local government, and the community to set environmental values and water quality objectives for South Australian waters according to the Environment Protection (Water Quality) Policy 2015 and the National Water Quality Management Strategy (NWQMS).
Community engagement is undertaken and comments invited on projects at different stages. For further information, contact the Water Quality Branch on phone number (08) 8204 2004 or by email.
